TRIP OVERVIEW:

Choose from one of three adventure motorcycling tours - fjord, mountain or coast- starting and concluding from our base in Bergen. You can expect to ride between 250-300 kms a day on sublime main roads, little-known back-roads and a selection of fine gravel trails. The Norsebound routes will include some of the major sites already familiar to you, both geographicaly and architecturally, but also give you a glimpse of the Norway most people don't see. Each day's riding will culminate in accommodation specifically chosen to reflect the tour and give the riding group a taste of Norwegian life. Regardless of which tour you choose, rest assured that features from the other tours will be incorporated. For example, should you want to ride the coastal tour, fjords and mountains will always feature; the emphasis is simply on the coastal zone.

CoastAL Tour

Norway has the seventh longest coastline - 29,000 kms including fjords, 2,500 kms excluding - of any country in the world. Subsequently, there is a lot to explore. Obvious highlights to the motorcyclist include The Atlantic Highway, but there is a great deal to be gleaned from riding numerous minor roads along the coastline north and south of Bergen.

The Norwegians, through fishing and, more recently, oil and gas exploration in the North Sea, have a close relationship to their coastline; it's respected, and although most places are inhabited, albeit by very few people, their presence has done little to change the overall appearance of the coastline through the years. Idyllic coastal villages, short ferry crossings and stunning scenery will be ever present. The Norsebound Coastal Tour will never be far from fjords or mountains, so do not feel that by choosing this tour you will miss out on experiencing Norway's fjords or mountains; both are omnipresent wherever you ride.

Fjord tour

Norway is synonymous with fjords: Geirangerfjord, Sognefjord, Hardangerfjord, to name just a few. The country is simply littered with spectacular bodies of inland waterways. You could spend a week alone riding the roads along the banks of Sognefjord, for example, and still not experience everything it has to offer. However, here at Norsebound, through numerous motorcycling weekends exploring the country and through our work within the field of inshore hydrographic survey, we have gained a greater knowledge of what lies beyond the obvious. We will show you small farms, feats of road engineering and stunning mountain backdrops in areas that even Norwegians do not know exist. And again, like all Norsebound's tours, although the emphasis for this tour will be the country's fjords, elements of Norway's coastal regions and its high mountains will be incorporated into the weekend tour.

Mountain tour

For many the mountainous landscapes of Norway are the biggest draw to this country, and rightly so. Jotunheim National Park and Hardangavidda, both barely five hours from Bergen, offer the opportunity to see the true wonder and beauty of not just this country but the world itself. Riding through either will leave you humbled. Both areas are characterised by high peaks, glaciers, waterfalls and vast open spaces. A network of back-roads, gravel roads and relatively traffic-free main roads will provide you with easy access to this vast playground.
